After 30 years of very active and intense senior executive level search in the retail, fashion and related industries, I took off some time “to smell the roses.” I have been serving on a number of corporate and non-profit boards, engaged in some high level strategic human resources consulting assignments and spending time with my family.
I have also discovered something about which I have become very excited: the transition of our military veterans to new careers. After extensive study of the opportunities available to them, I learned that although there are many resources available to veterans, little is being done to cultivate veterans skills and hire them in the corporate world, especially in the retail and fashion segments. As talented as they are few veterans have any experience outside the military and most don’t even know what options they have to utilize their skills. And while these men and women are among our country’s best and brightest, their next professional chapters need focus and direction.
So it is with great excitement that I have reconstituted Kerson Partners to be exclusively dedicated to providing military veterans with the support, care and counseling to successfully transition into new careers in the retail, fashion and related industries. I am also thrilled that a number of my former partners feel equally passionate about working with military veterans, are joining me in this endeavor. Together we will be providing the veterans with personalized individual career counselling, mentoring, resume and interview preparation so they are knowledgeable and equipped to transition into new careers. Once they are ready, Kerson Partners will introduce them to our clients so that they will be considered for positions in the dynamic global world of retail and fashion.
We are doing this because we believe that it will be a big win for veterans and companies. Veterans’ education and experience provide leadership and problem solving skills second to none yet they are often overlooked because they do not have specific number of years of industry training. Many veterans are unaware of what retail careers offer and therefore many of the most talented don’t even consider retail. This is a lost opportunity for retailers to attract this top talent.
Since our mission in re-forming Kerson Partners is to give back to our veterans, all of the necessary time and support required to prepare them for their new employment will be provided by industry professionals who share my passion for serving our veterans.
To all the military veterans, we are honored to have the opportunity to work with you. And to the retail and fashion industry we invite you to contact us so that we can introduce you to our outstanding candidates for career opportunities with your company.
